Balsamic Red Cabbage

20 minutes

A festive staple, this Balsamic Red Cabbage is essential for easy Christmas dinner prep, but it’s delicious any time of year. Using our Mellow Yellow Balsamic Vinegar Dressing makes the recipe wonderfully simple, the apple balsamic adding a fruity sweetness that pairs perfectly with the fresh apple in the dish.

It can be made ahead to save time – simply cook, cool, then freeze in a container for up to one month. Defrost and reheat for a stress‑free side that’s ready to serve.

Method

  1. 1

In a large frying pan with a lid, heat 1 tbsp of Mellow Yellow Rapeseed Oil on a medium heat. Add your onion and fry until softened.

  2. 2

Add the red cabbage and apple and continue to fry for a couple of minutes. Add the spices and season generously, stir well.

  3. 3

Stir in the flour and pour in your Mellow Yellow Balsamic Vinegar Dressing. Put the lid on and simmer on a low heat for approximately 15 minutes, or until everything is cooked, stirring occasionally.

  4. 4

If it gets too dry, add a tbsp of water. Check the seasoning and sweetness and add more salt or sugar to taste.

  5. 5

Decant into a serving bowl and place on the table for all to enjoy.
